Meet Some of Our Team
MARGIE ALT, Executive Director
Margie is our chief strategist, top trainer and lead spokesperson, with more than 30 years of experience in developing staff, building organizations and winning campaigns. She spearheaded our recent efforts to convince President Obama and his administration to restore Clean Water Act protection to nearly 2 million miles of America’s streams and to reduce carbon pollution from our nation’s power plants.
ANNA AURILIO, Global Warming Solutions Campaign Director
Anna is the director of our Washington, D.C., office, and the leader of our Global Warming Solutions program team. She has testified numerous times before the House and Senate science, energy and appropriations committees. She routinely earns a spot on The Hill’s top lobbyist list as she, according to The Hill, “executes a mix of inside persuasion and outside grassroots pressure at the scrappy green group.”
ROB SARGENT, Clean Energy Program Director
For more than three decades, Rob has led a series of campaigns that have reduced our nation’s carbon pollution, spurred the development of solar and wind power in dozens of states, and improved the fuel economy of our cars. Currently, he oversees our clean energy program, including campaigns to put America on a path to 100% renewable energy.
JOHN RUMPLER, Senior Attorney
John has run successful campaigns to restore the Chesapeake Bay, halt the expansion of offshore oil drilling in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon spill, and protect the Grand Canyon from toxic mining. His current efforts include overseeing our clean water and anti-fracking programs.
AMINAH ZAGHAB, Clean Cars Advocate
Aminah is our Clean Cars Advocate, based out of Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Environment America, Aminah worked for Forum Nobis, EarthRights International and the University of Maryland School of Law Gender Violence Clinic.
CHRISTY LEAVITT, Vice President & Partnerships Director
Before joining Environment America staff, Christy directed Free The Planet!, a national student environment organization, for four years. Between 1995 and 1999, she worked for CALPIRG, organizing college students at the University of California campuses around environmental, consumer and good government issues.
BRET FANSHAW, Go Solar Campaign Coordinator
Bret coordinates field and advocacy efforts for our Go Solar campaign. Prior to this role, Bret served for five years as an associate and then director of Environment Arizona. During that time, he successfully campaigned to stop new uranium mining around the Grand Canyon, passed local goals for clean energy, and led efforts to double the organization’s in-state membership.
DAVID MASUR, Executive Director, PennEnvironment
David spearheads the issue advocacy and civic engagement campaigns, as well as the long-term organizational building and development for PennEnvironment. He also oversees PennPIRG and other organizations within The Public Interest Network that are engaged in social change across Pennsylvania. David’s areas of expertise include fracking, global warming, environmental enforcement and litigation, and clean energy and land use policy in Pennsylvania.
